Join us for this Saturday’s monthly Critical Mass ride. This time we’re teaming up with the Social Butterfly Foundation, Inc. and doing a backpack/school supply drive! All Cyclists will be decorated with brilliantly colored Wings and face painting to support our cause. Victory will belong to children in residential foster care as they will be ready for the 2012 school year with backpacks received from the drive.

The ride is for 10 miles, followed by a “Wing Walk” in Wynwood Art District at 7:00 PM to hand out flyers during Art Walk in Wynwood to raise awareness about their program. More details and RSVP on Facebook or Meetup.

Graffiti by Bike. A tour of home-grown and world class graffiti in Wynwood, including Primary Flight’s diverse urban art and the Wynwood Walls, many of which are only dry since December’s Art Basel event. The tour will include information on the artists and crews, and the rules by which they respect tags, bombs, throw-ups and pieces. We will trace a route through Wynwood, following the artistic development of tags to commissioned public work.

This Monday, join Greenpeace at the Zen Village in Coconut Grove for a candlelight vigil for the people of Japan and to imagine a world without nuclear disasters.

Candlelight Vigil for Victims of the Japanese Nuclear Disaster

WHY:
March 28th is a nationwide day Greenpeace is sponsoring to honor the people of Japan and imagine a world where no-one has to suffer a nuclear disaster ever again. It is also the 31st anniversary of the Three Mile Island incident in Pennsylvania. Prayers for Japan and hopes for a nuclear- free world will be written on paper and folded into origami cranes. It is said that whomever folds a thousand paper cranes is granted a wish – our wish is for a world without nuclear disasters.

We will stand surrounded by the glow of hundreds of candles to remember those that have suffered needlessly from nuclear disasters as leaders from South Florida’s spiritual and environmental community offer their thoughts on this terrible tragedy. The vigil will end in a prayerful moment of silence led by Zen Village Master Chufei Tsai.

What to bring:
Please bring candles you can hold in your hand. It is also recommended to bring water (in a reusable container, naturally)

Parking/Directions:
The Zen Village is located on the Main Highway in Coconut Grove directly across from the Ransom Everglades School. Parking will be available from 6:00-8:30 PM in the school parking lot free of charge.

Attention Miami bike riders, sleuths, and strategists: Emerge Miami and Beached Miami invite you to the inaugural Miami Bike Hunt on March 5th, the first Saturday of Bike Month. Here’s how it’s going to work:

1. Riders will break off into teams of 2, 3, or 4 (you can create your own teams, or we can put you in teams the day of the ride)

2. The teams will get a list of challenges, each worth a certain amount of points (the harder the challenge, the more points for completing it). For example, a challenge could be: “20 points: Find a man in a yellow speedo.” To complete the challenge, you have to take a cell phone picture of the man in a yellow speedo *with one of your teammates*.

3. At the end of the ride, each team sends *one email with all their pictures to bikehunt@beachedmiami.com*; we tally up the points each team earned; the teams with the most points get prizes. (Prizes TBA)

The meetup spot for the ride is downtown at the Omni Metro Station. We will be registering teams from 12 to 12:45. *The ride will start at 1 p.m. sharp*.

After we get all the teams registered and distribute copies of the list of challenges, we’ll all make our way east across Venetian Causeway as a group with the Miami Bike Sound System blasting some awesome song (requests welcome).

Once we get across Venetian, the teams will fan out across South Beach trying to rack up as many points as they can. Remember: It’s not how many challenges you complete. It’s how many points you get, i.e., *boldness has its rewards*.

Your entire team must be back at the Omni Metro Station by 4 p.m. to be in the running for a prize. Winners can collect their prizes that night at *ANR’s CD Release Party at Eve* — which is going to rock!

While the Miami Bike Hunt does have an element of competition, *it really is all about having fun on a bike*. And, of course, the more people who show up, the more fun the ride will be. So come one, come all! Bring your friends! Make teams!

Just leave your yellow speedo at home.

Let’s Explore the culinary delights of taco’s. Ride throughout the county to get taco’s, nacho’s and if you got the belly for it burritos. Bring an empty stomach, and some cash.

As of now the places to go are Burritoville in Miami Springs, T-Mex on South Beach, and finally possibly an additional taco/cerveza stop in downtown. These stops are not set in stone but it should be a fun time. We’ll also work to get some kind of specials but taco’s aren’t too expensive.

Join us in supporting local, on-the-move eateries in Miami! For those of you who joined the last ‘Local Eats’ Sweet Treats Ride this past June, you will be in for a bigger treat! We’re going to visit some food and dessert trucks throughout the ride and support this boom in Miami eating. The ‘Local Eats’ series is meant to highlight Miami’s own food businesses.

Only one of the food trucks will take credit cards, so bring cash (suggested amount if you want to eat at 2-3 trucks $20-25).

Climate Refugees is an important and timely documentary film that uncovers the unbelievable plight of people around the world displaced by climatically-induced environmental disasters.
