City of Miami #NoWalmartinMidtown Planning and Zoning Board tonight, 6:00pm at City Hall
We don’t want truck loading on primary streets! Tonight’s Planning and Zoning Appeals Board meeting is an important public forum. We need a major turnout to let WalMart know that our elected officials created Midtown Miami as a shining model of Urban Planning and Design.
WalMart is attempting to amend Midtown’s Master Plan to remove Loading Zone Restrictions. This would dramatically increase traffic and cargo trucks to the area, have a negative impact on the walk-ability of the community, and eliminate the possibility of bike lanes or potential “Smart Growth” in the area.

Be sure to sign and share the petition. If you can’t go… e-mail your commissioner. Better yet, send a certified letter!

Sounds like the meeting involved a little astroturfing on Walmart’s behalf, what with a school bus filled with supporters and all. But the commission did good by those who are concerned. Walmart may still happen in Midtown, but at least the zoning and intentions for the pedestrian right-of-way was held intact. For me, that was a major concern. Walmarts come and go- but changing the zoning would set a harmful precedent for major development.
