Protest Offshore Drilling at “Hands Across The Sand” on June 26th

Join friends of 1Sky and South Florida Bike Coalition for a bike ride to Hands Across the Sand -a huge event put on by many like-minded groups. Bicyclists meeting at Government Center Metro in downtown Miami at 9:30 AM to ride over to Miami Beach.

At 10:30 AM, people will join hands in the sand on South Beach at 5th Street in solidarity with citizens in cities all over the world to protest the mismanagement of the oil spill, plans for new drilling being discussed by leaders now, and urge our leaders to focus on greenhouse gas reductions and renewable energy as they deliberate on energy policy in Congress this summer. (You can come on foot and meet us, too!)

Please join! Tell your friends! We are working on getting 1,000 people to this event! In Florida on Saturday, February 13, 2010, a statewide gathering against offshore oil drilling occurred. Thousands of Floridians representing 60 towns and cities and over 90 beaches joined hands to protest the efforts by the Florida Legislature and the US Congress to lift the ban on oil drilling in the near and off shores of Florida. Florida’s Hands Across The Sand event was the largest gathering in the history of Florida united against oil drilling. With the oil spill tragedy, we aim to be louder with more voices, and urge leaders toward renewable energy solutions.
