Stay of Execution Request: 1260 SW 1st Ave
From Karja of Emerge:
This is somewhat of a watershed event. In Little Havana we’ve been tirelessly chasing this stuff, but still only managed to learn on the morning of that this building is to be demolished. This is one of less than 300 remaining historic bungalows and haciendas in greater Little Havana, an area which was once made up almost entirely of them. Rumor is that this is to be replaced with a parking lot. The building is in amazing shape. This is an utter travesty – our cities heritage is being quietly erased.

Commissioner Carollo,
on behalf of myself and a large group of people working hard on behalf of Little Havana, namely the Little Havana Chamgemakers and the CNU+Miami group, I am writing to ask you to please do whatever you can to delay the demolition of the historic bungalow at 1260 SW 1st. It is scheduled to be demolished today, privately, by the owner. We feel this is a huge mistake, and would never happen in the places that MIami considers its models. At the very least, we are hoping for a delay in the demolition so that there will be time to remove the historic and rare details of the structure. Ideally, we could get enough time to finding funding and have the entire structure moved elsewhere.
Please reach out to us soonest, this is a huge issue in Little Havana – we are losing our neighborhood and our heritage daily.
Thank you,
Karja ****
