Every Second Saturday of the month is Critical Mass…and every Second Saturday of the month is Art Walk. Why not do both?
Emerge Miami is hosting a special night time bike ride to the August Art Walk in Wynwood. Forget the car this time–the Green Mobility Network will sponsor a FREE Bike Valet for secure bicycle parking. Riders can freely tour the galleries and those who wish to ride back to Government Center in a group will meet at a designated spot to be announced at the ride.
Holy spokes, 4 years of Emerge Critical Mass. Our first ride started at Vizcaya Metro-Rail station, and we will start there again. We will be doing a ride over the Rickenbacker Cswy to the end of Key Biscayne, we will ride back and stop at Crandon Park for a picnic celebrating 4 years of great rides. We will ride back to the Vizcaya Metro-Rail after.
Emerge Miami will screen for you “The American Astronaut”- a sci-fi-noir-western-space-musical by the cult band The Billy Nayer Show. Writer/Director/Star Cory McAbee’s award-winning independent mindbender explores the darkness of space, the solitude of gender, and the difficulties of being a Birthday Boy.
Thank you everyone who attended Hands Across the Sand Miami!
We are still counting attendees, but we had over 1,200 people sign in at our tables, and stretched out at least 8 blocks! We could not have done it without all of you!
Join friends of 1Sky and South Florida Bike Coalition for a bike ride to Hands Across the Sand -a huge event put on by many like-minded groups. Bicyclists meeting at Government Center Metro in downtown Miami at 9:30 AM to ride over to Miami Beach.
At 10:30 AM, people will join hands in the sand on South Beach at 5th Street in solidarity with citizens in cities all over the world to protest the mismanagement of the oil spill, plans for new drilling being discussed by leaders now, and urge our leaders to focus on greenhouse gas reductions and renewable energy as they deliberate on energy policy in Congress this summer. (You can come on foot and meet us, too!)
Please join! Tell your friends! We are working on getting 1,000 people to this event! In Florida on Saturday, February 13, 2010, a statewide gathering against offshore oil drilling occurred. Thousands of Floridians representing 60 towns and cities and over 90 beaches joined hands to protest the efforts by the Florida Legislature and the US Congress to lift the ban on oil drilling in the near and off shores of Florida. Florida’s Hands Across The Sand event was the largest gathering in the history of Florida united against oil drilling. With the oil spill tragedy, we aim to be louder with more voices, and urge leaders toward renewable energy solutions.

Miami’s Independent Thinkers is seeking experimental video artists for the upcoming July 4th event at The Awarehouse.
Please submit your entries as soon as possible:
ELIGIBILITY: The competition is open to all experimental video artists living or working in South Florida. Entrants must be 18 years of age or older to enter.
FILM SUBMISSIONS: Film may be up to 15 minutes in length. Please send artist contact information and artist statement along with links to the video submission. Please send all submissions to Kerry@MiamiThinkers.com with “JULY 4TH FILM SUBMISSION” in the subject field.
Thanks again for your continued support online and on the ground for bold federal action on climate change and a clean energy future!
Today: Please call your senators. The senate is voting on Alaska Senator Murkowski’s resolution soon - we thought the vote would happen last week, but truly, it will be any day now- and we need masses to call and say “VOTE NO!” If passed, the resolution would undo the Environmental Protection Agency’s authority to regulate greenhouse gases from coal power plants under the Clean Air Act- our only federal regulation currently in place to limit emissions and curb climate change.
Call with the tool on our website which will provide talking points- let the computer call you so we can keep track of how many can keep track of how many calls are made, and please input notes on who you talk with, or whether it’s a voicemail you get: http://tools.advomatic.com/13/calls
Can you also call 2 friends or family members and ask them to call as well, along with forwarding this message?
Thanks again,
Andrea Cuccaro

First and foremost we would like to thank everyone who in one way or another has helped piece together Graffiti by Bike. We’ve succeeded in introducing 100+ people and all their people to public art in Wynwood, an international attraction just around the corner. It has turned out to be much more than we could have ever hoped for and the results have been magnificent. With this being only the second time we carry out the tour we have been able to introduce a number of residents to their neighborhood, exposed kids to the positive aspects of urban art and discovered great local businesses.
Special thanks to EMERGE Miami, Green Mobility Network and the South Florida Bicycle Coalition for volunteering their time to organize the ride and keep everyone safe, Primary Flight for making our city internationally known, Lombardi and Goldman Properties for providing wall canvases to beautify our neighborhood, MOCA for hosting a very informative lecture, Harry Gottlieb, City of Miami Cultural Affairs Director and James Quinlan from the Arts & Entertainment Council for their support, Brook at Dorscht Gallery for much needed refreshments and access to their yard, Cafeina Lounge for opening their gates, and most importantly to all the artists who can see beauty beyond concrete walls and neglected neighborhoods.
As you may all know the tour was organized as a means to engage the community and promote active lifestyles. The idea is that cities adopt permanent and ongoing Open Street Programs like Bike Miami Days where residents, business owners and community organizations can all be introduced to each other and interact. These type of events benefit the community and neighborhood as a whole. This tour is a small effort towards that.
You can check out some great photos and a review from Liam Crotty who was awesome enough to document the entire tour.
We welcome all the constructive criticism you may have. We are always looking for new ideas on how to make the rides, events and our city better.
